‘Twas on a clear night in June with the most amazing moon,
when finally I met the stunning Samantha Reed.
Working in the same building as me, any eyes there could see,
I thought her beauty would make any rose look like a weed.
But fearing rejection, wary to approach her from any direction,
with even a mere introduction I couldn’t manage to proceed.

In my mind’s eye I saw men’s coats over puddles for her fly,
such was the magical allure of Samantha Reed.
But wonder of wonders, this night I conquered my blunders,
while attending a fund raiser banquet for families in need.
Grabbing a seat at the end of the table, I startled as if in a fable,
and my heart pounded so fast I thought it might bleed.
My senses felt under indictment for failure to control excitement,
for sitting down beside me was the luscious Samantha Reed.

Still I sat frozen, sure her seat had only been randomly chosen,
my tongue couldn’t speak, and every fiber of me readily agreed.
To not fret too much, I thought she’s likely conceited, out of touch
with everyday mortals like me, and others of the same creed.
But oh! It’s true when I’m wrong I can be as wrong as a song
with several diverse melodies, simultaneously vying to lead.
Samantha flashed a bright smile of star-like extremes,
with musical lilt said she wanted to meet me for a while indeed.

But she was a bit shy, hoped the first move would be made by I,
and with those words my fluttering heart shifted to ultra-speed.
After dinner, we spent the evening talking, she was a winner,
me astounded her looks couldn’t her beauty inside exceed.
She was intelligent, loving, kind, sweet, funny and caring,
the kind of woman for which most any man would plead.
Right away we began dating, after two years I tired of waiting,
on Valentine’s Day popped the question, sure I would succeed.
Marrying her set me forever aglow, and that was so very long ago,
proving the best things can last forever, given no cause to recede.

Our children and grand kids today we love more than we can say,
fortunately their mom’s outside-inside beauty they took to heed.
My love grows each hour, I asked her to keep a mystical power
and retain her maiden name. No way to improve Samantha Reed.
