Sitting dead still in the rush hour jam
yet again, almost ten minutes since
moving an inch, late for work, low on
gas, his ears perked straight up when
the voice on the radio – no, it couldn’t
be God could it? – announced a miracle.
At first the voice had spewed out what
he was experiencing at the moment.
“The world’s population topped six and
a half billion in 2006″ it boomed, but
followed by words that, unable to hug
his radio, prompted a few healthy pats.
“Kind of makes you want to move to
Pitcairn Island in the south Pacific.
Forty-five happy souls, the planet’s
least populated jurisdiction.”
Bingo! With his wife and two kids,
the planet’s least populated jurisdiction
soon increased almost 10 percent.
The census won’t count the dog.
