Everyone knows the meaning of “time”
but does anyone really know what it means?
Adults dread time taking them past their prime,
while little children can’t wait to reach the teens
and trot off to school wearing “big people’s jeans”.
Of gender or nationality time just doesn’t care,
it grabs us all from our birth to the last rite prayer.
So the earth is constantly revolving in a forever spin,
circling our sun to add what we know as a year,
but why should that change our being, outside and within?
What right have the sun and time to make our youth disappear,
altering the once young bodies and minds we held so dear?
The passage of time can eventually end all our days,
after changing smooth skin and colorful hair to wrinkles and greys.
Although scientists and scholars disagree on what is time,
we’re given a time bank account at the moment of birth.
Regrettably, some accounts are too small for age to climb,
and others squander time accounts foolishly while on this earth.
The key is to spend your time wisely, maximize it’s worth,
we can never be sure of the amount our time account holds,
which makes each day quite meaningful as time unfolds.
While time isn’t a commodity we can see or touch, hear or smell,
in truth it’s more important than any physical thing we possess,
when it’s used up we won’t so much as hear our own chapel bell.
No need in allowing this stark reality to lead us to distress,
if only we make it an everyday routine to give our very best.
We’ve known since early life our earthly clock won’t tick forever,
so strive to make time, whatever it is, a worthwhile endeavor.
