There was no news today
My sleep a bit fitful
I climbed out of bed
To my morning ritual
Turned on the TV
To see what there was to see
But the news anchor said
There was no news today.

There was no news today
No one in the world had been killed
Not a drop of blood anywhere spilled
No woman or child had suffered abuse
Ne’er a corporate executive with flimsy excuse
All the world’s citizens had plenty to eat
And the news anchor said
There was no news today.

There was no news today
Not a single bank had been robbed
No one lost a loved one and painfully sobbed
No teachers on a student had sexually preyed
All workers kept their jobs and needed no aid
Governments of the world with no dumb moves
Left the news man twiddling his thumbs
There was no news today.

There was no news today
Not one celebrity was found above the law
Nor appeared on the net dressed in the raw
Nowhere a single tragic accident
No child anywhere suffering abandonment
Weather the world over was sunny and warm
So the news anchor just smiled and said
There was no news today.

There was no news today
No politician had taken a bribe
And none had prostitution tales to describe
Not one school shooting leaving innocents dead
No reason for mall shoppers to flee in dread
Is it possible our world on this day makes sense?
I didn’t really miss it, just went on my way, happy
There was no news today.
